Ilford loses monopoly on woolly mammoth finds | Submitted: 21 Jan 2004 | The skull of a woolly mammoth measuring 5ft long has been found in a gravel pit in the Cotswolds. The species became extinct 10,000 years ago. This is the second found in Britain, with the first being found in Ilford in the 19th century.
