Election results are in! Submitted: 14 Jun 2001 No major changes here. Ilford South Mike Gapes (Lab) had about 24,500, Suresh Kumar (Con) about 10,500 voters. Ilford North Linda Perham (Lab) 18,500. Vivian Bendall (Con) 16,500. Chingford and woodford Green Smith (Con) 18,000. Webb (Lab) 12,500. Leyton and Wanstead Cohen (Lab) 19,500. Heckles (Con) 6,500. During the after-result speeches there were some scathing attacks on each other. Kumar retaliated to Gapes' attacks: "It is the biggest load of rubbish I have ever heard from a Labour MP. But there you are that's what their game of politics is - a dirty tricks campaign based on lousy tricks and mockery and slur."..."But that is what they stand for, the Labour Party - a bunch of rubbish."
