  • Is Ilford Cricket Festival 2002 going ahead?
    Ilford Cricket Festival 2002 has provisionally been given the go-ahead but Essex County Cricket Club's executive committee is demanding extra cash from the council to put it on and are threatening to pull out. They said they could not afford to 'prop up' the tournament.

  • Redbridge man died during the World Trade Centre attacks
    A father of two originally from Redbridge who had just celebrated his silver wedding anniversary is confirmed as the third victim from Redbridge who died during the World Trade Centre attacks. He was working on the 99th floor of the south tower.

  • This week's news in brief
    Bobby Ball, one half of comedy duo Cannon and Ball, will be telling jokes, singing songs and talking about Christianity at the City Gates Christian Centre in High Road Ilford at 2pm and 6:30pm on October 14th.
  • After falling asleep in a park in Water Lane, Ilford, a man was assaulted. He woke up in hospital with bruises on his arm and he may have lost £15.
  • A woman was kicked in Goodmayes Park. Her brave dog then attacked the man scaring him away.

  • This week's news in brief!
    There may be cuts in services as it was revealed that the gap between government funding and what the borough thinks it needs has soared from 4.3m to 7.5m since July. Cllr Hoskins says "Every year we are asked to balance the budget with insufficient resources". Cllr Axon says "We could well see an increase in council tax while providing a decline in services.
  • Dr Foster, a company which provides information about health services says that for this summer, King George Hospital in Barley Lane, Goodmayes had both the lowest ratio of nurses-to-beds and doctors-to-beds.
  • A con artist stole £150 from an elderly lady. He knocked on her door and claimed he was from the "Counterfeit Money Inspectorate" and said there were lots of counterfeit money around and asked if he could inspect her money. She gave him £150 to check. He said he needed to run it through the "infra red machine in his car" but guess what, he never returned.
  • A young boy used a pellet gun to shoot at pupils through the gates of Leys Primary School in Leys Avenue, Dagenham. One mother said her child has bruises all over his legs and a few holes in his trousers caused by the pellets.

  • Goodmayes Hospital reaches 100 years old!
    Goodmayes Hospital in Ilford is 100 years old. The hospital for mentally ill patients opened on August 6th 1901 and has been in continuous use. It currently has 213 patients although the highest figure it has been was 1,342 in 1995. During World War II some of its wards were used for war victims. The Pathways Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit within the hospital was highlighted as an example of good practise in a national mental health magazine.
