Valentines Park |
- Redbridge Show a success! If you weren't there you missed out!
The Redbridge Show was a massive success. 222,684 people turned up, which was down 1,000 on last year. In addition to those stalls reported on last week, there weas a quad bike arena and an armed forces stand with a live firing simulator, a missile launcher and armoured vehicles. - In Valentines park there was an attack with a baton.
- New Woolworth's store has opened where C&A was in Ilford.
- In March, a 17 year old was killed by a train as his attempt to fare-dodge failed. He sneaked into the station via a hole in the fence, and fell onto the tracks.
- The mobile phone mast that was due to be placed on Clayhall Avenue has been rejected on grounds of it being too close to houses and too tall.
- Policemen had to be cut out of their police cars after a high speed ar crash while responding to an emergency call. They were slightly injured.

- Another armed robbery in Hainault
At 8am on Monday two men burst into the One Stop Shop foodstore in Hainault. One grabbed the sales assistant at gunpoint while the other demanded she empty the till. They got away with £5,000. The assistant is now recovering at home. Just a week earlier, at a supermarket on the same road there was a burglary worth £3,500. A chemist also on the same parade had an armed robber last year. - Postmistriss and clerk accused of £3m benefit fraud
The fraud involved 30,000 lost or stolen benedit counterfoils being cashed in at their Post Office in Gordon Road, Ilford. This happened between Nov 1998 and May 2000. [Add your comment]
- 103 mile walker for charity returns!
Brian Hobbs, 49 walked from his home in Bungay, Suffolk to the Barnardos offices in Barkingside. He says "By the end of the walk I was walking like the Tin Man out of the Wizard of Oz". He has done lots of stunts for Barnardos before, like doing a sponsored swim in the icy sea and having his beard shaved off. He "will probably do a parachute jump next"! [Add your comment]
