    A drunken passenger was ejected from a stationary train for tampering. He then lay down between the rails on the track before being arrested.
  • The Imperial Cancer Research Fund shop in Cranbrook Road has reached a staggering £1.5m turnover since it was opened 14 years ago. The shop is now getting a facelift.
  • I man from Woodford Green has become the firs tperson to be found guilty of selling fruit and veg in pounds at his stall after the law changed to metric. He has been given a 12 month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £4,638. [That's Trading Standards being pathetic. They should be counter charged for being pathetic or wasting police time or something. - Ed]

  • Election results are in!
    No major changes here.

    Ilford South
    Mike Gapes (Lab) had about 24,500, Suresh Kumar (Con) about 10,500 voters.

    Ilford North
    Linda Perham (Lab) 18,500. Vivian Bendall (Con) 16,500.

    Chingford and woodford Green Smith (Con) 18,000. Webb (Lab) 12,500.

    Leyton and Wanstead Cohen (Lab) 19,500. Heckles (Con) 6,500.

    During the after-result speeches there were some scathing attacks on each other. Kumar retaliated to Gapes' attacks: "It is the biggest load of rubbish I have ever heard from a Labour MP. But there you are that's what their game of politics is - a dirty tricks campaign based on lousy tricks and mockery and slur."..."But that is what they stand for, the Labour Party - a bunch of rubbish."

  • Bomb scare
    Redbridge traffic came to a standstill after an abandoned car on the A406 was thought to contain a bomb. A section of the road over Charlie Brown's roundabout was closed for about 1.5 hours.

  • Local Tory candidate victim of dirty tricks campaign
    Suresh Kumar, Conservative candidate for Ilford South has claimed he is one of the subjects of a dirty tricks campaign. The Mirror, one of the low quality tabloids attempting to swing the election vote in the favour of the editor, had a 'Dirty Dozen' feature. Kumar once had a business which went into liquidation with debts of £500,000. Kumar, has had a rocky campaign. As part of the election advertising, he had a picture of Seven Kings High students with a slogan 'Labour has failed on education' above.

  • Pensioner's body undiscovered for a month
    The body of a pensioner laid undiscovered for nearly a month. Claire Press, 84, was found dead in her armchair in front of the fire. It is not being treated as suspicious.
